Losartan Potassium is indicated for the treatment of hypertension. It may be used alone or in combination with other antihypertensive agents, including diuretics. It is indicated to reduce the risk of stroke in patients with hypertension and left ventricular hypertrophy. It is also indicated for the treatment of diabetic nephropathy with an elevated serum creatinine and proteinuria in patients with type 2 diabetes and a history of hypertension.
DRUG OF CHOICE FOR:
• Pulmonary Hypertension
• Pulmonary Arterial Hypertension
• Patient with infection
• Left ventricular hypertrophy in hypertension
DOSAGE:
The usual starting dose of Losartan Potassium is 50 mg once daily, with 25 mg used in patients with possible depletion of intravascular volume (e.g. patients treated with diuretics) and patients with a history of hepatic impairment. Losartan Potassium can be administered once or twice daily with total daily dosage ranging from 25 to 100 mg. If the antihypertensive effect measured at trough using once-a-day regimen at the same total daily dose or an increase in dose may give a more satisfactory response. If blood pressure is not controlled by Losartan Potassium alone, a low dose of diuretic may be added. No initial dosage adjustment is necessary for elderly patients or for patients with renal impairment, including patients on dialysis, Losartan Potassium may be administered with or without food.
