Description
Montela 5 is a chewable tablet containing 5 mg of montelukast sodium, a leukotriene receptor antagonist used to manage asthma and allergic rhinitis in children aged 6 to 14 years. By blocking leukotrienes, substances that cause airway inflammation and constriction, Montela 5 helps alleviate symptoms and improve respiratory function.
INDICATIONS
Montelukast (Montela) is indicated for: 1) The prophylaxis and chronic treatment of asthma in adults and pediatric patients 12 months of age and older.
2) It is indicated for the prevention of exercise-induced bronchoconstriction (EIB) in patients 15 years of age and older.
3) It is also indicated for the relief of symptoms of seasonal allergic rhinitis in patients 2 years of age and older and perennial allergic rhinitis in patients 6 months of age and older.
DOSAGE & ADMINISTRATION
Montelukast (Montela) should be taken once daily in the evening. Following doses are recommended:
Asthma
15 years & older: 10 mg once daily
6 to 14 years of age: 5 mg once daily
2 to 5 years of age: 4 mg once daily
Allergic rhinitis
For allergic rhinitis and perennial rhinitis, Montelukast (Montela) should be taken once daily.
Following doses for seasonal allergic rhinitis are recommended:
15 years & older: 10 mg once daily
6 to 14 years of age: 5 mg once daily
2 to 5 years of age: 4 mg once daily
In case of EIB, a single 10 mg dose of Montelukast (Montela) should be taken at least 2 hours before exercise.
